Even though he is now out in front of his twin brother Tom on the concert stage, he was reportedly born ten minutes behind Tom. Their parents split wen he and Tom were seven years old. His mother married musician Gordon Trümper.
Around the age of nine, Bill began wearing eye makeup and styling his hair. Around the same time his twin brother Tom began to grow his hair into dreadlocks. This lead to taunts and teasing from schoolmates and even teachers who found it hard to accept both Bill and Tom's appearance.
Determined to break away from the small town of Loitsche, Bill and Tom began performing locally with Bill singing lead and Tom on guitar. They used an electronic keyboard to fill out the sound for their two-boy band. Shortly after they added band-mates Georg and Gustav, Bill displayed his ability as frontman, when he went on the nationally televised German Star Search show. Although he didn't win, his performance gained national exposure for the band and a record deal ensued.
